BGN Excludes 80 Elite Private Schools from Free Nutritious Meal Programme

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has excluded around 80 elite private schools from receiving the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. These schools are considered already capable of meeting their students’ nutritional needs independently.

Head of BGN Sudaryono said the exclusion was made after the government reviewed the list of MBG recipients in various regions. “Some private schools that are indeed elite private schools, which I think do not need MBG. There are already around 80 such schools across Indonesia, particularly private schools, which we exclude from receiving MBG,” Sudaryono said at the Ministry of Finance office in Jakarta on Friday (28/8/2026).

In addition to elite private schools, BGN has also excluded a number of boarding schools. According to Sudaryono, these schools already have their own nutrition fulfilment programmes and therefore do not require MBG allocation.

He cited SMA Taruna Nusantara as an example of a school that does not receive MBG because meeting students’ meal needs is already part of the school’s programme. “There are many boarding schools. Like my old school, SMA Taruna Nusantara, it does not receive MBG because that is already part of their own activities,” he explained.

Sudaryono said the policy is already in effect. The public can check which schools do not receive MBG allocation through the MBG radar.

He mentioned several schools that do not receive the allocation, including Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), Cikal, Taruna Nusantara, Kemala Bhayangkari, and Taruna Bhayangkara. “It is already done. You can check on the MBG radar, for example by entering JIS or Cikal, or Taruna Nusantara,” Sudaryono said.
