BGN Evaluates Building Structure After Glass Panel Falls
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has confirmed it handled the incident of a shattered exterior glass panel at the BGN office building in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 9 July 2026. The agency will also evaluate all building elements with similar characteristics to prevent a recurrence. The incident occurred around 11:25 WIB in the exterior area of the second floor of the BGN office building. According to an official statement, one exterior glass panel detached from its mounting after a sound was heard from the bracket support ring. The panel then fell onto the asphalt area below the building and shattered into fragments. BGN Spokesperson and Deputy Head Agustina Arumsari stated that the agency immediately implemented handling procedures once the incident occurred. The steps taken included documenting the location, sterilising the area, and cleaning up the glass material. ‘As soon as the incident occurred, we immediately carried out initial handling procedures to ensure the safety of employees at the location, starting from visual documentation, area sterilisation, to emergency material clean-up,’ Arumsari said in a written statement on Thursday, 9 July 2026. According to Arumsari, BGN is now conducting a thorough evaluation of building parts with similar characteristics. The results of the inspection will serve as the basis for determining repair measures as well as strengthening building safety aspects. ‘BGN also prioritises safety aspects through periodic inspections and necessary follow-up actions so that such an incident does not happen again,’ she stated. BGN is still investigating the exact cause of the glass panel’s detachment. The examination covers the condition of the glass panel as well as its supporting structure. Previously, rumours circulated on various social media platforms claiming the incident was triggered by a shooting by an unknown person at the BGN office. However, BGN has denied these reports. BGN explained that similar incidents have occurred several times in recent years. The preliminary suspicion is that the panel detached due to material expansion triggered by the temperature difference between the hot weather outside and the cold temperature inside the building.
