BGN Ensures Free Nutritious Meal Programme Does Not Use Subsidised Cooking Oil, Rice, or LPG

The Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sudaryono, has confirmed that the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme does not use subsidised commodities such as Minyakita cooking oil, SPHP rice, or 3 kilogramme LPG canisters. This policy is enforced so that subsidised goods remain enjoyed by the communities who are entitled to receive them. According to Sudaryono, the prohibition on using subsidised goods in the MBG programme has been established from the outset through technical guidelines and budget calculations. All menu requirements have been planned without relying on commodities that receive government subsidies. “So it is indeed a requirement, we cannot use Minyakita, we cannot use SPHP rice and 3 kilo LPG canisters. Because these are intended for those who need the subsidies,” said the official known as Mas Dar during a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture’s head office in Jakarta, as quoted on Wednesday (29/7/2026). He explained that the MBG budget has also been structured to provide safe and nutritious menus without utilising subsidised goods. According to him, the cost of cooking oil is not the largest component in preparing a meal portion compared to main foodstuffs such as chicken, eggs, or vegetables. Sudaryono stressed that the BGN’s primary focus is ensuring that every menu received by children is safe for consumption and meets nutritional requirements. To strengthen oversight, the BGN is also preparing a system that will allow parents to view the menu, nutritional content, and daily distribution schedule. The BGN is also opening space for public participation in monitoring the programme’s implementation. Sudaryono urged the public to report any menus deemed unfit or any violations in the execution of the MBG programme. He emphasised that all programme budget management must be carried out transparently as it involves public funds.
