BGN Confirms Panel Glass Breakage Due to Technical Issue, Not Shooting

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has provided clarification regarding the incident of a shattered glass panel at the BGN office on Thursday (9/7). The agency confirmed that the event was purely a technical accident caused by structural damage to the support bracket, and was not the result of a shooting.

The incident was reported at around 11:25 WIB in the exterior area of the second floor of the BGN office building. A single exterior glass panel detached from its mounting after a sound was heard from the bracket support ring. The material then fell onto the asphalt area below the building and shattered into pieces.

BGN Spokesperson and Deputy Head, Arumsari, confirmed that the agency immediately took swift action to secure the location. Initial handling procedures were carried out to ensure the safety of all employees and people within the office environment.

‘As soon as the incident occurred, we immediately carried out initial handling procedures to ensure the safety of employees at the location, starting from visual documentation, area sterilisation, to emergency material clean-up,’ Arumsari stated in an official release on Thursday (9/7).

As a follow-up measure, BGN will conduct a thorough evaluation of all building elements with similar characteristics. This is being done as a form of mitigation to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Arumsari added that periodic inspections will be tightened.

‘The results of the inspection will serve as the basis for determining repair steps while strengthening building safety aspects going forward,’ she emphasised.

To date, BGN is still conducting an in-depth investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the glass panel’s detachment, including evaluating its support structure. Initial suspicions point to material expansion caused by extreme temperature differences between the hot outdoor weather and the cold air from the indoor air conditioning system.
