Central Lombok (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN) conducted a surprise inspection of a Nutrition Service Unit (SPPG) or Free Nutritious Meal Kitchen (MBG) at Praya District, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

“This inspection is to ensure the MBG programme remains safe, healthy, and meets children’s needs in accordance with established regulations,” said Dian Islamiati Fatwa, Senior Technical Officer at BGN Deputy for Field III, during the inspection in Central Lombok on Sunday.

During the inspection, BGN discovered that nearly all facilities, equipment, and infrastructure at the kitchen failed to meet operational standards.

She cited examples including a utensil washing area located adjacent to a toilet, ceilings without waterproofing, poorly maintained flooring, and the absence of air conditioning in several rooms.

She also noted that the kitchen walls were mouldy.

According to her, the kitchen should be closed due to inadequate facilities for operation. She expressed concern that continuing to operate the SPPG would pose risks to its beneficiaries.

“This will likely be suspended,” she stated.

More concerning, she said, is that the SPPG kitchen head serves as the District Coordinator (Korcam) in Praya, who should set a positive example for other kitchens.

“We will evaluate the coordinator, especially as they are part of the BGN internal structure. They should be capable of assessing components that pose risks to the distributed food,” she added.
