BGN Chief Nanik Reports to Prabowo on Budget Efficiency for Free Nutritious Meals Programme
President Prabowo Subianto summoned the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Nanik S Deyang, to the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 11 June 2026. Nanik stated that she would deliver good news to President Prabowo regarding budget efficiency. ‘Budget efficiency, good news. Let it go down, let it go down, efficiency. I want to report to the President about efficiency,’ Nanik told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex. Previously, Nanik S Deyang said her agency would refocus the beneficiaries of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. Through this refocusing, Nanik mentioned that wealthy schools would likely no longer receive MBG. ‘The purpose of this refocusing is, is it necessary? I think it is not necessary if, for example, the wealthy schools, surely the nutrition at home is also better,’ Nanik told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex on Tuesday, 9 June 2026. Nanik explained that BGN would focus on ensuring MBG reaches beneficiaries who are genuinely in need. ‘So we will direct it more towards children or beneficiaries who truly need nutritional intervention,’ she clarified. ‘We will refocus, so whether the current 63 million truly need it, or whether it can actually be reduced, and then we will add those who have not yet received it,’ Nanik continued. Additionally, Nanik stated that BGN will carry out quality control in every MBG kitchen or Nutritional Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) to ensure standards are met. ‘I have also conveyed to the President that in 2026 we are not pursuing quantity, but quality. So, we will check whether the current kitchens comply with the technical guidelines or not. We will grade them, for example, whether this kitchen can serve 3,000, 2,000, or just 1,000 meals. We will group them later,’ she concluded.
