The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has stated it continues to monitor and conduct surprise inspections of Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) across Indonesia. Since January 2025, the BGN has temporarily suspended 8,182 SPPGs.

“From the launch of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme on 6 January 2025 until 29 May 2026, out of the 27,208 SPPGs currently operational nationwide, 8,182 have been suspended,” said Nanik S Deyang, BGN’s Deputy Head for Public Communication and Investigation, in a statement on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

Nanik noted that in Region I, covering Sumatra, of the 5,968 operational SPPGs, 148 remain suspended. Ten were suspended due to major incidents, while 138 were suspended for infrastructure, organisational management, and nutritional quality issues.

Meanwhile, 610 suspended SPPGs have resumed operations. Thus, a total of 758 SPPGs in Region I have been suspended.

In Region II, covering Java, of the 16,594 operational SPPGs, 1,666 remain suspended. Sixty-one were suspended due to major incidents, while 1,605 were suspended for infrastructure, organisational management, and nutritional quality issues. Additionally, 1,800 previously suspended SPPGs have resumed operations.

“Thus, a total of 3,466 SPPGs in Region II have been suspended,” Nanik said.

In Region III, covering Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua, 399 SPPGs remain suspended out of 4,646 operational units. Twenty-five were suspended due to major incidents, while 374 were suspended for infrastructure, organisational management, and nutritional quality issues. Meanwhile, 3,559 previously suspended SPPGs have resumed operations. Therefore, a total of 3,959 SPPGs in Region III have been suspended.

Across all regions, a total of 8,182 SPPGs have been suspended, with 5,659 having had their suspension lifted and resumed operations after meeting requirements.

Meanwhile, 2,213 SPPGs remain suspended for failing to meet regulatory standards regarding management and infrastructure.

Nanik explained that SPPGs face suspension for various reasons, including menus causing student poisoning such as digestive issues, diarrhoea, and vomiting; menus not adhering to ingredient budget limits of Rp 8,000 and Rp 10,000; deliberate markup of ingredient prices; and non-compliance with building layout regulations.

Additionally, SPPGs that have not registered for the Health and Sanitation Certification (SLHS); lack wastewater treatment facilities (IPAL); or fail to provide accommodation for the SPPG Head, Nutrition Supervisor, and Financial Supervisor may also face suspension. Those without compliant kitchen equipment, poor management practices, disputes between partners and foundations, or fewer than 15 suppliers are also subject to suspension.

“If SPPGs fail to provide data on MBG distribution to Group 3B by 2 June 2026, they will face major suspension (without incentives) and their heads will receive a severe warning,” said the Permanent Chairman of the Ministry and Agency Coordination Team for the MBG Programme Implementation.
