Beyond Reducing Textile Waste, PNM's RE3 For-E Drives Benefit Chain for Laundry Customers
Behind piles of unused clothing lies the potential for new opportunities. Clothing that previously sat unused in wardrobes can regain value through the right movement, benefiting both donation recipients and the small entrepreneurs involved in the process.
This is the spirit presented by PT Permodala Nasional Madani (PNM) through the RE3 For-E programme: Reduce, Re-love, Restyle for Environment, Economy, Empowerment, and Education. Carrying the message ‘From the Unused, a Growing Impact Emerges’, this movement is part of PNM’s 27th anniversary celebrations, encouraging employees to recognise that unused items can serve as the start of new benefits.
Through RE3 For-E, PNM connects environmental concern with economic empowerment. Collected wearable clothing is not immediately distributed; instead, it undergoes washing, tidying, and curation to ensure it is returned in a proper condition. In this process, PNM involves PNM Mekaar customers who run laundry businesses as part of the programme’s benefit chain.
A total of 17 tonnes of wearable clothing have been collected from various PNM regions across Indonesia. More than 270 PNM Mekaar customers with laundry businesses were involved in washing and tidying the donated clothes before they were distributed to those in need. This involvement serves as evidence that environmental movements can run alongside economic opportunities that directly benefit ultra-micro entrepreneurs.
For laundry customers, RE3 For-E is more than just a social activity. The programme provides a space to participate in charitable actions while generating additional income for their businesses. Through the process of washing and tidying clothes, participants feel a sense of pride that their small businesses are contributing to a broader benefit.
Anjar Sifa Maulidia, a PNM customer running a laundry business, stated that her involvement in the RE3 For-E programme has provided meaningful experience for herself and her business. “We are happy to be involved in PNM’s RE3 For-E programme. We help wash and tidy the collected clothing before it is distributed to the community in need. Besides gaining additional income from this programme, we also feel proud to be part of such a social action,” she said.
A similar sentiment was shared by Emi Himawati, a PNM Mekaar customer from the Solo branch, who also received laundry orders for the donated clothing. She expressed that this support is significant for the sustainability of her business.
“This assistance and care are very meaningful to us. Not only does it help our business continue to run and grow, but it also increases our enthusiasm to keep moving forward with PNM,” she said.
Through this programme, previously unused clothing does not end up as waste. It becomes a benefit for recipients, an income opportunity for laundry customers, and part of a movement of care. RE3 For-E serves as a manifestation that simple steps can deliver wide-ranging impacts when undertaken together.
