Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has mandated all Nutrition Service Units (SPPG) to utilise social media as a platform for public education on balanced nutrition and healthy eating habits. Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency Sony Sanjaya stated that this policy is being implemented as part of efforts to expand public nutrition literacy and strengthen programme transparency at the regional level.

Sanjaya made the announcement in Palembang on Saturday, 28 February, noting that social media has extensive reach and is effective for conveying accurate, timely, and easily understood information to the public.

“SPPG units nationwide are required to actively leverage digital platforms to provide continuous, data-driven education. For example, people should know which meals will be distributed to schools as part of the Free Nutritious Meal programme on any given day,” Sanjaya said, as reported by Antara on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

According to him, social media engagement by SPPG units should not be limited to activity announcements but must include educational content such as balanced nutrition guidelines and the importance of protein consumption. This content is expected to be packaged creatively to appeal to various demographics, including younger generations.

Through optimised social media use by SPPG units, BGN hopes efforts to improve public nutritional status can proceed more extensively and in an integrated manner. This policy simultaneously represents a strategic step in supporting the development of a healthy and quality human resource base.
