Beware! Scam Ads Mimicking 'Apple' Can Drain Crypto Assets

A new scam in Singapore is using the name of technology giant Apple. Losses within two weeks have reached S$195,000 (Rp 2.7 billion) in cryptocurrency assets.

The scam sends pop-up notifications to Apple devices. The fraudsters claim to be from Apple and say there has been unauthorised access to the user’s account or ask them to change their Apple ID password.

Next, victims receive a call from a scammer posing as a member of Apple’s technical support team. Most calls use the +1 country code or originate from North America.

The scammer will say the victim’s Apple account or email has been hacked and direct them to fake sites such as chat-apple.com and case-apple.com. Information such as Apple ID credentials, cryptocurrency account details and one-time passwords (OTPs) will be requested by the perpetrators.

“Victims only realise they have been scammed after discovering unauthorised cryptocurrency transactions in their accounts,” police said, as quoted by the Straits Times on Sunday (23/8/2026).

Local police also said five fraud cases have been reported since 7 August 2026.

To avoid similar crimes, police remind the public not to provide important information such as Apple ID passwords to anyone. It should be noted that Apple never asks its users to provide their Apple ID password, OTP, or login credentials via phone calls, notifications or online links.

If you receive a password reset notification, close it immediately. Then go to the Settings app and verify your account status or update your password. Users can also contact Apple directly through its official support channels. In addition, contact your service provider if you believe your cryptocurrency account has been hacked.

“If you suspect your cryptocurrency account has been hacked, contact your cryptocurrency service provider and take steps to secure your account,” police said.
