Beware of Train Ticket PayLater Fraud Modus, KAI Daop 4 Semarang Issues Warning

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 4 Semarang, Central Java, continues its commitment to providing education and protection to the public regarding digital transactions. As a preventive measure, KAI Daop 4 Semarang is urging the public to be wary of fraud modes disguised as social engineering, which exploit digital financing features (PayLater) on third-party platforms or e-commerce.

This was stated by the Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 4 Semarang, Luqman Arif, through an official statement on Monday (14/09/2026). He emphasised that this modus operandi purely targets the psychological manipulation of victims and is not a vulnerability within the train ticket booking system.

“The modus operandi begins when perpetrators persuade victims under the pretext of asking for help, offering commission rewards, or the lure of instant profits to book train tickets using the PayLater limits of the victim’s personal account,” said Luqman.

Luqman explained that once the tickets are issued, the perpetrators use control over the booking account to process ticket cancellations (refunds). As a result, the refund funds flow into the perpetrator’s account, while the victim remains burdened with the obligation of PayLater instalment payments and interest.

He ensured that KAI’s transaction infrastructure and ticketing systems are entirely secure. “All KAI sales and operational ticket systems currently operate with high security standards and are strictly verified,” he explained.

This fraud method, Luqman continued, exists outside KAI’s direct operational ecosystem because it exploits individual negligence and personal financing limits. Therefore, KAI strongly advises customers to conduct bookings independently through the official Access by KAI application or the kai.id website to ensure security, data certainty, and comprehensive service ease.
