Beware of Puncak hold-ups

As I entered the Puncak area in West Java in July with my relatives, I had the window of my car open. About 500 meters from Puncak Pass, I noticed the apparent smell a scorched clutch lining. I thought it just came from an old burned tire because I knew my car was all right.

Several people suddenly emerged, shouting out a warning that my car engine was on fire. But my heart said they were bad guys, wearing mechanics' suits and following us on motorcycles. I refused to stop for fear of being robbed. After some kilometers away from them, we examined the car and it proved to be in good condition.

Therefore, travelers passing Puncak should be alert against such trickery. If anybody claims there is something wrong with your car, just ignore the warning. If you are in doubt, check it at a nearby police station or go straight to a car workshop. I hope the police will make frequent patrols to prevent such crime.
