Jakarta (ANTARA) - The modus operandi of scams disguised as lost packages is increasingly prevalent amid the rise in digital transaction activities, with perpetrators posing as logistics companies to defraud victims. “There is IDR 9.1 trillion in public funds reported lost due to this scam,” said the Chair of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Friderica Widyasari Dewi, during a working meeting with the House of Representatives’ Commission XI in March 2026, quoted from an official statement by SPX Express on Wednesday. This modus operandi is carried out by perpetrators contacting victims via WhatsApp or telephone, claiming there is a problem with the package such as it being lost or needing to be returned, then requesting personal data or money transfers. Meanwhile, SPX Express has affirmed that the company does not have an official Instagram account and advises the public not to share sensitive information, including full names, account details, or screenshots, with unknown parties. The public is also reminded to be wary of calls from unofficial numbers claiming to represent logistics companies and to always transact through official channels. The prevalence of these scams serves as an important reminder for the public to exercise greater caution in digital transactions to avoid becoming the next victims.
