The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is preparing a nationwide application to allow the public to check the use of their identity in mobile number registrations. This application will enable customers to find out whether their KTP or other identity data has been used to activate a specific phone number. Director General of Digital Ecosystem at Komdigi, Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, stated that the application will be connected to the systems of mobile operators, including Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), Telkomsel, and XL Smart. ‘We are preparing a national registration check application. So, mobile operator customers who have completed biometric verification can later check the system, whether at IOH, Indosat, Telkomsel, or XL Smart, to see if their KTP or identity has been used to activate a number,’ Edwin said during the Declaration of Joint Commitment for Full Implementation of Biometric Data-Based Customer Registration in Jakarta on Thursday. Through this application, the public can also request the blocking or cancellation of registrations for numbers that use their identity without permission. Requests for unregistration can be made through Komdigi or directly to the mobile operator. ‘And they can request, whether through Komdigi or directly to the mobile operator, for it to be unregistered,’ he said. Edwin mentioned that the government is targeting the launch of the national registration check application within approximately two months. Currently, Komdigi is collaborating with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to prepare the system. ‘We are preparing this, God willing, we will launch it within two months. We are currently working with BSSN to prepare this application because it is a government application that will directly serve the public and must be protected by BSSN’s system,’ Edwin stated.
