Beware of Horrific Traffic Jams! These Are the Peak Dates for the Return Rush of Eid Travellers to Jakarta
Bekasi, CNBC Indonesia - The government predicts that the peak of the 2026 Eid return flow will occur again at the end of this weekend. Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the peak of the second wave return flow will take place on 28-29 March 2026. This is because there are still around 500,000 vehicles of return travellers that have not yet returned to the Jabodetabek area.
“There are still about 480,000 to 500,000 vehicles that have not returned to Jakarta; that is our ‘homework’ to resolve during the peak return flow,” said Police Chief Listyo during a press conference at the Jasa Marga Toll Command Centre (JMTC) on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
With the potential for a second wave peak return flow on 28-29 March 2026, they hope that the public will undertake their return journey to Jakarta outside of that peak period.
“So we hope that in the remaining time available, as it is predicted there will be another peak return flow on 28 and 29 March 2026, from the remaining vehicles that have not returned and the possibility of additional arrivals from the public heading to Jakarta, this is certainly something we always advise to the public, to make use of the remaining time available,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi confirmed that the second wave peak return flow will occur again on 28-29 March 2026.
“We can convey that there is still a potential for a peak return flow, as mentioned earlier by the Police Chief, namely on 28 and 29 March 2026,” said Dudy.
Dudy also hopes that the public wishing to return to the Jabodetabek area will avoid those dates and undertake their return journey on 26-27 March 2026, utilising the toll fee discount and the work from anywhere (WFA) policy.
“We hope that the public can take advantage of the WFA policy as well as the toll fee discount implemented on 26 and 27 March 2026 at 30%, so that we can reduce the density that we predict will occur on 28 or 29 March 2026,” Dudy clarified.
