Beware of Hajj Data Validation Scams: What You Need to Do
The Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) is urging the public to heighten awareness of scams targeting prospective Hajj pilgrims. These Hajj scams impersonate Kemenhaj and request personal data under the pretext of validation or updating pilgrim information.
Quoting from the Instagram post of the @kemenhaj.ri account, the scams to watch out for include those via telephone or text messages, requests for personal data, OTP codes, and even video calls for facial recording.
What Needs to Be Done
Please take the following steps to avoid scam tactics.
Do not share personal data with unknown parties
Avoid clicking suspicious links
Never give OTP codes to anyone
Ensure information comes only from official sources
Be wary of all forms of digital scams
If in doubt or encountering something suspicious, immediately contact official officers or Kemenhaj’s official channels
