Beware of education fraud: Minister

SEMARANG: National Education Minister Abdul Malik Fadjar warned universities against unauthorized persons who offered services in gaining permission for study programs from the Education Ministry in Jakarta.

He said all universities should directly submit their request for new study programs as the government had simplified the official procedure.

"The directorate general for higher-learning institutions will immediately respond to any requests for the establishment of new faculties. Of the most importance is that applicants are ready to run the study programs and develop them," he said after opening a seminar on education here on Monday.

The minister also warned executives and university graduates against the rampant illegal sale of phony postgraduate and PhD diplomas. --Antara
