Beware of digital fraud: BI partners with OJK and GoPay to strengthen UMKM financial literacy in Bali
Bank Indonesia (BI), in collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), PPATK, AFPI, and GoPay, has launched the ‘Pintar Bareng GoPay’ financial education programme to enhance financial literacy among Bali’s UMKMs.
Zetra Iez Zaputra, BI’s Unit Head for Policy Implementation, Licensing, and Consumer Protection, highlighted that QRIS adoption could open greater opportunities for Bali’s UMKMs, particularly with the introduction of QRIS Cross Border payment systems. ‘Given Bali is a tourism destination, QRIS Cross Border enables UMKMs to accept payments from tourists from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and China,’ he stated on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
However, he stressed that digital payment adoption must be accompanied by adequate financial literacy and understanding of transaction security as a foundation for business growth. He urged entrepreneurs to remain vigilant against digital scams, protect personal data, and understand secure transaction methods, adding that the initiative is a tangible step toward strengthening public financial literacy, especially for UMKM operators. ‘We hope such collaborations continue to expand financial inclusion across Indonesia,’ he said.
Audrey P. Petriny, GoPay’s Head of Corporate Affairs, explained that the programme, designed to be accessible and easily understood, engaged 150 Bali-based UMKMs in learning about basic financial management, digital transaction security, and responsible use of digital financing products. Participants were also educated on the legal risks of business misuse for illegal activities such as money laundering and online gambling. Beyond educational sessions, attendees were introduced to GoPay’s secure, transparent digital financial solutions to support sustainable business growth. ‘UMKM development depends not only on financial management skills but also on understanding safe digital business practices,’ Audrey said.
