Beware of Diabetes Surge in Adolescents, Health Ministry Reveals 6 Prevention Methods
Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono stated that lifestyle changes are the main trigger for the increasing incidence of diabetes among young people. According to him, high screen time, lack of physical activity, poor sleep patterns, and consumption of high-sugar foods are very real risk factors for the younger generation.
“In the past, type 2 diabetes was synonymous with people aged 40 or 50 and above. But today, we are starting to see it emerge in teenagers, even in some cases among junior high school students,” Dante said, as quoted from the official website on Monday (15/6).
Dante stressed that diabetes in teenagers tends to develop more rapidly than in adults. Therefore, preventive measures must be taken collectively within the family environment to avoid long-term complications.
In addition to lifestyle changes, the public is also urged to undergo regular blood sugar checks at least once a year. Early detection is the key to ensuring that Indonesia’s young generation remains productive and avoids the threat of diabetes in the future.
