Beware, money changing deception
Beware, money changing deception
From Warta Kota
The group Combating Counterfeit And Financial Crimes has called on the public to watch out for a new scam in the currency exchange.
The scam works as follows: A group claims to possess money in Rp 100,000 denominations of the Sukarno-Hatta edition note as a result of the excess number of these banknotes printed in Australia at the turn of the millennium. It claims they can be transferred to all banks other than Bank Indonesia and subjected to an authenticity test.
The group offers the exchange of the rupiah banknotes for U.S. dollars and is ready to pay Rp 10,000 per dollar, with the excuse of avoiding bothersome banking procedures.
After the U.S. currency is readied in an agreed location, victims of the deception will find that the rupiah banknotes they receive are forged and the gang get away with the dollars.
