Beware, crime at Cawang
Beware, crime at Cawang
From Jurnal Indonesia
Those passing through the Cawang traffic light, precisely on
the crossroad between Jl. MT Haryono, Jl. D.I. Panjaitan, near
the traffic light, must be careful as the area has of late been a
very sensitive location for crimes.
Many people have fallen victim to the brutality of robbers or
snatchers disguised as street musicians or cigarette vendors.
They daringly and openly threaten drivers by holding them up with
a knife.
Recently, at around 11:30 p.m., I was the victim of three
criminals who pointed a knife at me at the said traffic light.
Fortunately, I managed to show a more threatening attitude to the
criminals. When they tried to break the car's window glass, I
swiftly took a gun from my coat and pointed it at them.
With the same swiftness, they ran away. Fortunately it was me
who they targeted. Had the crime been committed against somebody
else, the criminals might have robbed the victim of all their
belongings.
What puzzled me is that under the bridge of Jl. D.I. Panjaitan
there is a police post in charge of upholding security in that
area. Strange as it may seem, such a crime doesn't receive any
attention from them.
Through this Your Letters column, I appeal to the police in
charge of that area to be more active in providing security to
the public; don't let criminals freely and openly commit their
criminal acts. It's time for the police to give real proof of
their abilities as upholders of the law and to become public
protectors.
