Dozens of railway (KA) crossings in the Daop 3 Cirebon operational area remain unguarded by personnel to this day. The programme to close level crossings continues as a preventive measure to improve train travel safety.

The Daop 3 Cirebon Public Relations Manager, Muhibbuddin, stated that there are 175 railway crossings in the Daop 3 Cirebon area. Of these, 133 crossings are guarded by personnel from KAI, local government, or community self-help initiatives.

“Meanwhile, the other 42 crossings are still unguarded,” said Muhibbuddin on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

This situation creates the potential for accidents at level crossings. Therefore, efforts to close level crossings continue.

Muhibbuddin explained that since January to April 2026, KAI Daop 3 Cirebon has closed two illegal level crossings in various areas. This activity was carried out through synergy with various parties, such as the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation, local government, transportation departments, and local apparatus.

The details of the closure locations include one point in Cirebon Regency, at Km 191+8/9 between Kertasemaya and Arjawinangun. The other point is in Subang Regency, at Km 117+6/7 between Pegadenbaru and Cikaum.

He said that closing these wild crossings is a form of KAI’s commitment to creating safe train travel and protecting the surrounding community. Throughout 2026, 22 accidents have been recorded at level crossings.

“Before the closure, KAI Daop 3 Cirebon first conducted socialisation to the local community and provided information regarding alternative routes or the nearest official crossings,” he said.

In accordance with Law No. 23 of 2007 on Railways, level crossings without permits must be closed to ensure the safety of train travel and road users. “KAI Daop 3 Cirebon urges the public not to open illegal crossings as it can endanger collective safety,” added Muhibbuddin.

In addition, road users are also expected to always obey signs and not force their way across when warning signals are active. “For the sake of collective safety and security, KAI Daop 3 Cirebon invites all parties to participate in complying with applicable regulations,” Muhibbuddin stated.
