Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Thousands of workers began dispersing from the demonstration in front of the DPR RI building on Thursday (16/4/2026). Based on observations by CNBC Indonesia, the orations by workers from the Indonesian Metal Workers’ Federation (FSPMI) and the Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPI) concluded at 14:00 WIB, with dispersal starting around 14:05 WIB.

FSPMI President Suparno stated that this demonstration marks the beginning of preparations for the Labour Day action to be held in front of the DPR RI on 1 May. He estimated that the crowd of workers would number between 50,000 and 100,000. Specifically for FSPMI, the turnout is expected to reach 25,000 people.

“Today’s action is a preliminary action in preparation for Labour Day or Pre-May Day. Later, there will be 100,000 workers from across Indonesia flooding in front of the DPR RI. For FSPMI itself, we will deploy 25,000 members,” said Suparno during a press conference on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Suparno also emphasised that FSPMI and KSPI workers will not join the Labour Day event at Monas with the government.

“We, FSPMI, are part of KSPI. KSPI has decided that this year’s May Day is to demand that President Prabowo fulfil his promises, so KSPI and FSPMI have decided not to participate in the one at Monas, but we will hold an action in front of the DPR RI,” he explained.

In the Pre-May Day action and subsequently on Labour Day 1 May, they are demanding two main things: the ratification of a new Employment Law (UU) and the abolition of outsourcing-rejection of low wages (HOSTUM).

“Today’s demo and on 1 May, we are bringing two main demands, namely ratify the Employment Law and HOSTUM,” he clarified.

Furthermore, if the Employment Law is not ratified by Labour Day, the demonstration will continue until the law’s ratification deadline of 31 October 2026.

“We will continue to champion the ratification of the Employment Law and HOSTUM until May Day, even until October 2026. We will increase the escalation of action waves; we will continue to consolidate in the regions to enhance local actions,” he asserted.
