Beverage Businesses Seen as Needing More Stable, Heat-Resistant Cup Seals
Jakarta, VIVA – The choice of seal cup, or plastic cup cover, is often regarded as a minor detail in beverage business operations. Yet the quality of seal cups plays a vital role in safeguarding product integrity all the way to the consumer.
Trifinity Chief Executive Officer Suwito Triguna stressed the importance of material consistency in packaging products that come into direct contact with food and beverages.
“Seal cups must be made from stable materials so they adhere perfectly without the risk of melting. The clarity of the plastic is usually an indicator that the material used is still original and uncontaminated,” Suwito said in a statement on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
He noted that in the contemporary beverage industry, which relies heavily on takeaway and delivery systems, seals that fail to adhere properly can cause leaks, spills and customer complaints.
Such risks not only result in raw material losses but can also affect brand image and consumer trust.
One of the most common problems encountered in the field is the use of seal cups made from blended or recycled materials. Products of this type generally appear dull or lack clarity.
“Besides affecting packaging aesthetics, impure materials are considered to have less stable melting points when heated using sealing machines,” he said.
In practice, this instability can cause the plastic either to fail to bond at standard temperatures or to melt when the temperature is raised slightly. Such conditions have the potential to disrupt production processes and increase waste.
According to Suwito, using 100 per cent original materials helps maintain stability during the heating process. Additionally, material thickness plays a role in ensuring strong adhesion and minimising the risk of leakage.
“Trifinity has developed a seal cup with a thickness of 50 microns and a roll length of up to 90 metres per roll. The product is designed to withstand temperatures of up to 200 degrees Celsius for specified durations, and has been certified Halal by BPJPH,” Suwito said.
Amid increasingly fierce competition in the beverage business, selecting the right packaging is seen as part of a strategy to maintain service quality. Safety standards and material consistency are key factors in ensuring that operations run efficiently whilst maintaining customer satisfaction.
