Better to dissolve RT/RW

Referring to a recent Warta Kota report Repetition of election
of village council members, I am concerned with the fate and
dignity of neighborhood community boards (RT/RW) which were
blamed by Jakarta Administration officials for mistakes they did
not make.

With their limited facilities, the RT/RW have striven to carry
out their respective tasks as instructed by village chiefs and
subdistrict heads. Unfortunately, the administration officials
did not appreciate their efforts very much and blamed the RT/RW
for mistakes in organizing the election village council members.

As I was directly involved in carrying out the task at the RW
level, I know the RT/RW have done their job very well and, had
there been any mistakes, they were made by higher levels of the
government's apparatuses. Nevertheless, if the administration
does not trust its RT/RW, who else should they trust to deal
directly with Jakarta's communities?

The administration should realize that the RT/RW are not their
subordinates and, as such, they are not obliged to receive
instructions as they wish. And if the administration's
apparatuses continue to behave like this, namely having no
confidence in the RT/RW, I think it is time all RT/RW
organizations across the capital be dissolved.
