Betawi Dodol Orders Surge Tenfold During Ramadan
Jakarta, VIVA – Betawi dodol from Kampung Ceger, Sukajaya Village, Cibitung District, Bekasi Regency, has seen a flood of consumer orders since the start of the holy month of Ramadhan 1447 AH. Demand rose so much that production capacity had to be increased.
One micro, small, and medium enterprise (UMKM) home-based dodol producer from Kampung Ceger, Wulan (39), said her production kitchen has hardly been quiet since the start of Ramadan due to orders increasing sharply compared with normal days.
“Dodol Betawi orders for Ramadan have jumped up to 10 times the normal days. Production has increased by 100 percent,” she said in Cikarang, quoted on Friday, 6 March 2026.
She explained that her business operates five large cauldrons with a capacity of 90 kilograms of dough each. The quantity yields 450 kilograms of dodol per day during the holy month of Ramadan.
“If totalled, it can reach 12 tonnes of production during Ramadan up to Eid al-Fitr later on. The sales peak usually occurs in the last ten days ahead of Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr),” she added.
She produces a variety of flavours to attract customers. In addition to original dodol, chocolate and black sesame variants are also offered with prices ranging from Rp40,000 to Rp70,000 per kilogram.
“If we talk about turnover, well, it follows. The higher the production, the more money coming in, for sure,” she said.
A similar situation is felt by another home-based dodol UMKM producer, Dobleh (62), who says orders have been increasing gradually since the start of Ramadan.
“Praise be to God, there is a little increase here and there. The Ramadan momentum every year always brings blessings for us,” he said.
He also operates five large cauldrons with capacities of 80 kilograms of dough each. Production during Ramadan is much higher than on ordinary days. He even had to increase the number of workers from four to 10-20 people who stir the dough for eight full hours until it is cooked in sequence.
Dodol made by Dobleh is quite varied, from red dodol, black dodol, sesame to dodol wajik. One more variant is durian-flavoured dodol which buyers say is the favourite. “If the selling price is stable, it is roughly the same as previous years, between Rp45,000 and Rp50,000 per kilogram for premium quality,” he said.
