The Betawi Consultative Body (Bamus Betawi) has called on all parties to safeguard Jakarta. Bamus Betawi hopes that everyone will work together to keep Jakarta peaceful.

This appeal was made by Bamus Betawi Chairman Muhammad Rifki, also known as Bang Eki Pitung, during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (20/8/2026). Rifki issued the call in response to circulating invitations for a demonstration in Jakarta on 27 August 2026.

“We at the Bamus Betawi Traditional Council have seen leaflets and flyers inviting residents of Pati, Central Java, to hold a protest on 27 August 2026,” Rifki said as he opened the appeal to safeguard Jakarta.

He stated that Bamus Betawi is very open to activities conveying aspirations with good intentions and purposes. Rifki urged the people of Pati who wish to demonstrate not to be provoked by irresponsible parties.

“We understand that conveying aspirations and holding protests is a freedom for everyone to express their rights and opinions. It is protected by law. We would be pleased if the purpose is good and the aspirations are conveyed with good intentions,” Rifki said.

Rifki noted that one of the issues behind the circulating calls for protest concerns the ratification of the asset forfeiture bill. He invited all parties to oversee the deliberation process of the bill.

“Drafting a law takes time and cannot be forced. There are mechanisms and stages involved. We should give it the benefit of the doubt,” he said.

Rifki suggested that aspirations be conveyed directly through dialogue with the House of Representatives (DPR). He called on all parties to safeguard Jakarta.

“If they come in a peaceful manner, without anarchy and without hidden intentions, then there is no problem,” he said.

“So, God willing, we will safeguard Jakarta together,” Rifki concluded.
