Public transport services owned by the Jakarta provincial government will be fare-free during Eid al-Fitr. Not only city services, the Transjabodetabek routes are also confirmed free. Welfizon Yuza, Chief Executive Officer of PT TransJakarta (Transjakarta), said the policy is a move by the DKI provincial government to celebrate the religious holiday. The free fare applies to all Transjakarta services. ‘If we look at the implementation of the free service, it is all TJ services. So including Transjabodetabek, then BRT, non-BRT, it’s all the same, all included,’ said Welfizon when contacted on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. He explained that, in system terms, the transaction will still be recorded as Rp 1 even though the policy is free. This is because the electronic payment system still requires a rupiah nominal for the card tapping process. ‘In the TJ system, MRT and others, Rp 0 must still have a value; that’s why it becomes Rp 1. So Rp 1 and Rp 0 are not that different in rupiah terms. But technologically there must be a rupiah amount transferred from the card,’ he said. Regarding the exact date of implementation, Welfizon said they are waiting for an official decision from the Dinas Perhubungan DKI Jakarta through the head of department decree (SK). ‘Later we will follow the Transportation Agency. Whether on the 1st of Syawal or another date, the 1st and 2nd, we’ll see. We are waiting for the SK,’ he added. In addition to waiving fares, Transjakarta will adjust operating hours on Eid day. The service is expected to begin operations around 09:00 or 10:00 WIB to allow drivers and staff to perform Eid prayers. During the Lebaran holiday period, Transjakarta also anticipates a surge in passengers heading to tourist sites, such as Ancol, Taman Mini, Ragunan, and PIK, by adding vehicles on those routes. As for the airport routes, Transjakarta targets a new service to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to operate ahead of the Lebaran exodus, complementing the services already available. ‘Because we already have an MOU with Angkasa Pura, the process at the Ministry of Transportation will be pushed to obtain the permit quickly. And we target to have it operating there before Lebaran,’ he added.
