JAKARTA - The Director General of Corrections (Dirjen Pas) of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas), Mashudi, stated that besides the Sukamiskin Penitentiary (Lapas), his office also has 70 locations utilised as Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG), or kitchens, for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. Mashudi said the 70 MBG kitchen locations are spread across all penitentiaries and detention centres (Rutan) in Indonesia. “The initial (MBG kitchen) was at Sukamiskin Penitentiary; now there are 70 points in penitentiaries and detention centres that have MBG, with 28 in process to be completed by the end of this month. Hopefully, the rest will continue to progress,” Mashudi said at the Ditjen Pas office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026). He added that inmates assigned to the kitchens receive salaries. “The total workers are 46-48 people. 20 of them are inmates working there, in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) for MBG,” he stated. “Our hope going forward is that many inmates will have cooking skills; based on assessments, we will empower them,” he said.
