The Jakarta High Court has increased the sentence of corruption defendant Ibrahim Arief, known as Ibam, in the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM), from four years to five years in prison and imposed Rp5 billion in restitution.

Public Prosecutor Roy Riadi said his office would study the appellate ruling handed down against Ibam in the case. According to him, the appellate ruling has strengthened the first-instance decision.

“The prosecutor will study the appellate ruling, in which the subsidiary charge was proven, strengthening the first-instance decision because the demand was the primary charge,” Roy said in a statement on Monday, 31 August 2026.

He said that in principle, most of the legal facts in the appellate ruling could be proven by the prosecution, but the judges only decided on restitution of Rp5 billion.

Regarding the ruling that Ibam remains under city detention, Roy said his office would monitor the case until it has permanent legal force, or inkracht.

“In the final ruling, the defendant Ibam remains under city detention, and of course we will monitor the status of this case going forward until it is inkracht,” he said.

It is known that the Jakarta High Court judges handed down a five-year prison sentence against Ibam. The sentence is heavier than the first-instance ruling, which was only four years in prison.

“Sentencing the defendant Ibrahim, also known as Ibam, therefore to five years in prison and a fine of Rp500 million,” the judge said while reading the verdict at the DKI Jakarta High Court, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 31 August 2026.

If the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with 140 days in prison. In the first-instance ruling, Ibam was not ordered to pay restitution, but at the appellate level the judges imposed Rp5 billion in restitution on Ibam.

“Ordering the defendant to pay restitution of Rp5 billion,” the judge said.

If the restitution is not paid, his assets will be confiscated and auctioned for the state. Meanwhile, if Ibam’s assets are insufficient, the penalty will be replaced with four years in prison.
