Berbagi Bahagia Foundation and Sharing Happiness Distribute Aid for Flores Earthquake Victims in NTT
The Berbagi Bahagia Foundation, together with Sharing Happiness, distributed the first phase of humanitarian aid for communities affected by the earthquake on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Monday (17/8/2026). This initial distribution is part of the organisations’ humanitarian response to help meet the basic needs of communities impacted by the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the Flores region on Saturday (15/8/2026).
In the first phase, the aid provided consisted of essential supplies to support affected communities and the operation of communal kitchens. The assistance comprised 30 sacks of rice, 20 crates of eggs, 5 boxes of cooking oil, 10 boxes of instant noodles, and 10 boxes of bottled mineral water.
The aid was distributed in the Danga area, Aesesa District, Nagekeo Regency, including at Lapangan Berdikari Danga, which serves as one of the communal kitchen locations. A total of 547 people were recorded as beneficiaries of this first phase of assistance.
Field Coordinator of the Berbagi Bahagia Foundation, Idjal, said the first phase of distribution was carried out to respond to the most urgent needs identified on the ground. “From the conditions we observed in the field, the community’s needs remain very significant, particularly for food and basic logistics. Therefore, we will continue the response by tailoring assistance to the needs of survivors and displaced persons,” Idjal said.
The next humanitarian response will be directed towards meeting the needs of affected communities, including ready-to-eat meal packages, logistical supplies, and necessities for infants and women. The areas targeted for subsequent aid distribution include Sikka Regency (Maumere), Nagekeo Regency, Manggarai Regency, and East Manggarai Regency.
Idjal added that aid distribution will be carried out in stages, taking into account the conditions and needs of communities in each affected area. “We hope this assistance can help communities get through the emergency period. We also invite our #TemanBerbagi to continue supporting this humanitarian response together, because there are still community needs that we must help address in the next distribution,” he said.
The Berbagi Bahagia Foundation and Sharing Happiness hope that this first phase of aid can ease the burden on communities facing an emergency situation while supporting the fulfilment of basic needs for displaced persons. The humanitarian response will continue to reach more affected communities in several areas of Flores.
