Benyamin: South Tangerang Development Must Start with the Citizens
The Mayor of South Tangerang, Benyamin Davnie, has asserted that regional development must stem from the real needs of the community. This orientation serves as the foundation for the South Tangerang City Government in executing programmes across the housing, health, education, infrastructure, and environmental sectors.
“We are committed to ensuring that all local government programmes are directed towards the needs of the people,” said Benintamin following his attendance at the 2026 Batch II Regional Java-Bali Outstanding Local Government Appreciation at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre, Badung, Bali, on Friday (28/8/2026).
This year’s Batch II awards focused on four categories: the Implementation of the 3 Million Houses Programme, Access and Quality of Healthcare Services, Access to Education Services, and Waste Management and Environmental Beauty. The Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, stated that these four fields are directly related to basic community needs and the improvement of quality of life.
For South Tangerang, the forum serves as a space to re-measure the effectiveness of programmes that directly touch the lives of citizens. Benyamin noted that awards are not the end goal, but rather a catalyst to improve the quality of service.
One programme attracting significant attention is the renovation of uninhabitable houses. Throughout 2026, the South Tangerang City Government has completed the renovation of 329 houses spread across seven districts. Each house received an intervention valued at IDR 75 million, consisting of building materials and labour costs. The programme is prioritised for low-income earners, the poor, and unproductive persons with disabilities, based on the condition and eligibility of the housing.
“What we are doing is not just repairing houses, but ensuring that the community can obtain more decent, healthy, and safe living spaces,” said Benyamin.
This programme aligns with central government policy through the 3 Million Houses Programme. For urban areas like South Tangerang, housing issues involve not only the construction of new dwellings but also ensuring that existing homes meet safety and health standards.
In addition to housing, the South Tangerang City Government is strengthening healthcare services through the ‘Ngider Sehat Premium’ programme. This programme utilises a proactive approach by visiting citizens who require healthcare services. Having operated since 2021, the service was upgraded to ‘Ngider Sehat Premium’ in late 2025, with enhanced medical staff and mobile units equipped with diagnostic tools such as ultrasound and ECG.
The programme targets the elderly, pregnant women, toddlers, persons with disabilities, chronic disease patients, and those with limited mobility. This approach is intended to ensure that healthcare services do not merely wait for the public to visit health facilities.
South Tangerang previously achieved Third Place in the Poverty Alleviation and Stunting Reduction category at the 2026 Batch I Regional Java-Bali Outstanding Local Government Appreciation held in Yogyakarta on 4 June 2026. At that time, the South Tangerang City Government also received appreciation funds amounting to IDR 1 billion.
However, Benyamin emphasised that these achievements do not mean the government’s work is finished. Instead, the recognition serves as a drive to improve programmes and public services.
“This assessment motivates us to push for the enhancement of programmes that are based on the needs of the entire community,” said Benyamin.
