Benyamin Davnie Urges Collaboration to Protect Women and Children from Evolving Social Risks
South Tangerang Mayor Benyamin Davnie is encouraging stronger collaboration between the government, families, educational institutions, businesses, communities, and the public in efforts to protect women and children from various social risks that continue to evolve with the times. According to Benyamin, the protection of women and children is a shared responsibility requiring the active participation of all parties. Therefore, the South Tangerang City Government continues to strengthen various programmes and services aimed at creating a safe, comfortable environment that supports child development and women’s empowerment. “Women and children must receive optimal protection. They have the right to live, grow, and develop in a safe environment free from all forms of violence, discrimination, or harmful treatment,” Benyamin said on Monday (22/6). He explained that the challenges facing women and children today are increasingly complex. Beyond issues of physical and psychological violence, new risks have emerged in the digital space that require collective attention. As a result, the South Tangerang City Government continues to enhance prevention efforts through education, socialisation, mentoring, and the strengthening of protection services that are easily accessible to the public. These steps are taken so that every case can be handled quickly, appropriately, and comprehensively. He also stressed that victims of violence should not be afraid to report incidents. The South Tangerang City Government has prepared the Tangsel Siaga 112 hotline or WhatsApp at 0813-8020-1112, which can be contacted 24 hours a day. “Prevention must be the main focus. The stronger the family resilience and the higher the public awareness, the more the potential for violence against women and children can be suppressed,” he said. In addition to strengthening the protection system, Benyamin also emphasised the importance of digital literacy for children and parents. He noted that the use of technology must be accompanied by a good understanding so that children can avoid various threats in the digital space. “Technological developments bring many benefits, but also present new challenges. Therefore, parental guidance and digital education are very important so that children can use technology wisely and safely,” he said. Benyamin added that the success of protecting women and children cannot be achieved solely through government programmes. Synergy among all elements of society is needed to build an environment that is caring, responsive, and courageous in reporting any indications of violence or violations of the rights of women and children. The South Tangerang City Government, he continued, will continue to strengthen cross-sector coordination to ensure that women and children obtain their rights optimally, whether in education, health, social protection, or opportunities for development. “When women feel safe and empowered, and children grow up in a healthy and protected environment, we are building a strong foundation for the future of South Tangerang City. This is a shared responsibility that we must continue to uphold and strengthen,” Benyamin concluded.
