Bengkulu holds boar-hunting contest

BENGKULU, Bengkulu: In a bid to reduce the growing population
of wild boars, the local agriculture office has organized a boar-
hunting contest in dozens of villages in Bengkulu.

Agriculture office head Suardi Rusin said on Saturday that the
hunting competition was held to help farmers fight their arch
enemy and curb the fast multiplication of wild pigs.

He revealed that during the first phase of hunting, 75 groups
of local hunters killed thousands of wild pigs that had caused
extensive damage to crops in the province.

The winner was a group of hunters from North Lebong and the
runner-up was from Central Lebong. Third place went to the town
of Curup. They received Rp 500,000, Rp 400,000 and Rp 300,000
respectively as prize money.

Suardi said the winner also won a trophy an addition to the
cash prize. --Antara
