Bengkulu City pushes to reactivate over 1,000 cooperatives

Bengkulu City’s Head of the Cooperative and Small and Medium Enterprises Office, Nelawati, has stated that her office is encouraging 1,005 cooperatives in the region to become active again, as currently only around 800 are still operating. She made the remarks during the 79th National Cooperative Day (Harkopnas) commemoration.

Nelawati explained that some cooperatives remain inactive due to various factors, such as the death or resignation of board members. She noted that there are also cooperatives with new management that have yet to commence business activities or complete the ratification process, meaning they are not yet fully operational.

She emphasised that the National Cooperative Day serves as a momentum to strengthen the role of cooperatives in driving community economic growth and boosting the spirit of administrators in developing their businesses and fulfilling organisational obligations. Her office is continuously providing guidance and encouraging these member-based enterprises to adapt to technological developments, including the adoption of digital systems in their management.

Digitalisation is deemed necessary so that cooperatives no longer rely solely on manual management, thereby improving operational efficiency and the quality of service to members. The city government is also providing assistance to ensure cooperatives continue to run their business activities, whether in the savings and loans sector or other fields.

Through the 79th National Cooperative Day, the Bengkulu City Government hopes that cooperatives in the area will continue to grow, enhance their governance quality, and strengthen their contribution to supporting the community’s economy.
