Bengkulu City Government Launches Nine Elderly Schools Across Subdistricts
Bengkulu — The Bengkulu City Government has announced that in 2026, nine elderly schools (Sekolah Lansia) will be operational across nine subdistricts within the city, designed to enhance independence and improve the quality of life for older residents.
“In 2026, the Bengkulu City Government has officially launched nine Elderly Schools distributed across nine subdistricts,” said Rosminiarti, Head of the Department for Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control and Family Planning (P3AP2KB) of Bengkulu City, on Monday.
She stated that the launch represents an important step in expanding the programme’s reach so that more elderly residents can benefit from it.
The nine schools are located in Gading Cempaka Subdistrict, Kampung Melayu Subdistrict, Muara Bangkahulu Subdistrict, Ratu Agung Subdistrict, Ratu Samban Subdistrict, Singaran Pati Subdistrict, Selebar Subdistrict, Sungai Serut Subdistrict, and Teluk Segara Subdistrict.
Rosminiarti noted that learning activities at the Elderly Schools are scheduled to commence in April 2026, following the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, with each learning group meeting three times per month.
The learning methodology employed is designed to be relaxed and interactive, allowing elderly participants to engage comfortably and enjoyably. The curriculum will cover multiple dimensions, including health, light physical activity, mental health development, and social wellbeing.
By establishing nine Elderly Schools across all subdistricts, the city government hopes that elderly residents will remain empowered, independent, and possess a better quality of life even as they enter their senior years. The programme serves as a platform for older adults to remain active, healthy, and productive.
Through the programme, elderly participants will have access to various learning activities and opportunities to interact socially with fellow participants. “The Elderly Schools Programme aims to ensure that older residents maintain positive activities. They can learn together, interact, and gain useful knowledge to maintain their health and fitness in their later years,” Rosminiarti explained.
