Bengkalis Police Arrest Fugitive in 15 kg Methamphetamine Case

The Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Bengkalis Police, Riau, has arrested a fugitive in a case involving the distribution of 15 kilograms of methamphetamine, after he had been on the wanted list for almost three years. Head of the Bengkalis Police Narcotics Unit, AKP Tidar Laksono, stated that the suspect, identified as A (48), was arrested at his residence in Sungai Alam Village, Bengkalis District, on Thursday (18/6). “This arrest is the result of the hard work and commitment of Bengkalis Police Narcotics Unit personnel in resolving every narcotics case, particularly against perpetrators on the wanted list,” Tidar said in a statement received in Pekanbaru on Monday evening. He explained that suspect A was a wanted fugitive in a narcotics case uncovered based on a police report dated 5 August 2023. From the investigation and development of the case, police discovered the involvement of suspect A, who is alleged to have acted as a communication liaison between another suspect still under investigation and a courier who was arrested earlier. “From the examination of previously apprehended suspects, it was revealed that suspect A played the role of a communication facilitator who introduced and connected the perpetrators within the drug distribution network. Since then, he has been on the wanted list and continuously pursued,” he said. For nearly three years, the Bengkalis Police Narcotics Unit team continued to investigate, monitor, and search for the suspect’s whereabouts. During initial questioning, the suspect admitted to acting as a communication link between the perpetrators involved in the methamphetamine transaction. He also admitted to knowing two other perpetrators who had previously been processed in the case. Additionally, a urine test showed the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine. “Investigators are continuing to develop the case to uncover the possible involvement of other parties connected to this drug distribution network,” Tidar said.
