Bener Meriah Residents Applaud Government Plan to Strengthen Enang-Enang Bridge Construction

The community-led effort by residents of Kampung Arul Cincin, Pintu Rime Gayo District, Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh, to repair the Enang-Enang Bridge has now received full government attention. The Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR) for Sumatra has stepped in to strengthen the bridge’s structure while preparing a long-term infrastructure solution. The government’s swift action was enthusiastically welcomed by local residents. Enang-Enang community figure Syahrial said the presence of the Satgas PRR provides mobility certainty for residents who have heavily relied on the bridge for daily activities. He conveyed this during a meeting with Satgas PRR Chairman Muhammad Tito Karnavian, expressing gratitude for the government’s commitment to resolving connectivity issues in the area. ‘The planning is extraordinary; three things will be done. The Werlah to Simpang Lancang road will be widened to six metres and then asphalted, two bridges will be built, and then one flyover. Alhamdulillah,’ Syahrial said on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. Syahrial also welcomed the government’s decision to maintain the function of the existing Enang-Enang Bridge while waiting for the permanent project to be completed. ‘We have agreed that the Public Works Ministry and the government are working together here for the people’s interest. Once again, on behalf of the community, we thank the Government of the Republic of Indonesia for paying attention to us for the people’s interest,’ he said. Responding to this, Satgas PRR Chairman Muhammad Tito Karnavian explained that his team has prepared three handling scenarios that will run in parallel. The first step focuses on strengthening the existing Enang-Enang Bridge. ‘This Enang-Enang Bridge will continue to function and be strengthened as much as possible by the Public Works Agency, with the aim that at least two-wheeled and ordinary four-wheeled vehicles can use it. However, it cannot yet accommodate six-wheeled vehicles, especially lorries,’ Tito said. As a second step, the government will widen the Wer Lah alternative road to six metres, accompanied by asphalting and the construction of two permanent bridges. This project, worth approximately Rp100 billion, will be executed this year.
