Benefits of Local Ingredients for Skincare, from Gotu Kola to Cinnamon
KOMPAS.com – The use of natural, plant-based local ingredients in skincare products is gaining popularity, in line with the increasing trend of skincare.
Indonesia has a wealth of plants that have the potential to be used as raw materials for cosmetics. From gotu kola to cinnamon and roses, various ingredients are considered to have benefits for skin health.
Supervisor of R&D Research at PT Nose Herbal Indo, Pinastya, said that the potential of local ingredients for skincare in Indonesia is very large.
These natural ingredients, which come from plants, have different functions according to their content.
The use of these ingredients is also adjusted to the needs of the skin, ranging from relieving irritation to helping to brighten and maintain skin elasticity.
Gotu kola or Centella asiatica is known as a soothing agent that helps reduce redness on the skin, especially when acne is inflamed.
This ingredient can be used in products for sensitive skin because of its ability to soothe irritated skin.
“When acne is inflamed, applying a soothing agent will help reduce it,” added the Product Development team at PT Nose Herbal Indo, Eva Astry, on the same occasion.
The plant, commonly known as licorice, is widely used as a brightening ingredient because it can help lower melanin levels in the skin, which is one of the causes of dull skin.
With proper use, this ingredient can help even out skin tone, making it look brighter and fresher.
“For brightening, licorice extract is usually used because it helps lower melanin, so the skin looks brighter,” explained Eva.
Cinnamon is used as an anti-aging ingredient because it has high antioxidant content, including flavonoids.
