Ben Hil Case: Sahroni Urges Police to Investigate Housemaid Agency to Employers

New facts have emerged in the tragedy of two Domestic Assistants (ART) who jumped from the fourth floor of their employer’s boarding house in the Bendungan Hilir (Benhil) area, Central Jakarta. Tanah Abang Metro Police Chief, AKBP Dhimas Prasetyo, stated that one of the ART who died in the incident was actually underage, aged 15 years. The case is now being handled by the Ditreskrimum of Polda Metro Jaya. In response, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Ahmad Sahroni, called for the police to investigate thoroughly. He assessed that the police need to explore the potential criminal elements from the perspective of the employers and recruitment agencies. “I ask the police to investigate thoroughly not only the incident, but also to trace the responsibilities of the employers, the boarding house owner, to the ART recruitment parties. The fact that one of the victims is still underage, 15 years old, indicates a serious violation has occurred,” said Sahroni in a written statement on Monday, 27 April 2026. Sahroni explained that suspicions of pressure leading the victims to jump desperately must also be delved into because this could lead to human rights violations. “If the elements are met, it must be brought to the criminal realm,” said Sahroni. Furthermore, following the enactment of the UU PPRT, Sahroni assessed that law enforcement now has a broader scope in delving into cases involving domestic workers like this. “Moreover, now we have the UU PPRT. That means there is no more excuse for law enforcement to hesitate in acting to provide justice for domestic workers. This case must be the entry point to strictly sanction parties who deviate from the rules, while ensuring real protection for domestic workers in Indonesia,” said Sahroni.
