BEM UPNVJ to Stage Protest at Patung Kuda Today

The Student Executive Body (BEM) of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta will stage a protest in the Patung Kuda area, Jalan Medan Merdeka, today, Thursday, 18 June 2026. Based on a mobilisation poster shared by the Instagram account @bem_upnvj, the action is scheduled for 10.00 WIB. “BEM UPNVJ invites the entire UPNVJ Student Family to attend this mass action call!” read the caption of the BEM UPNVJ post. UPNVJ students will first gather at the Pondok Labu Campus, specifically at the Selasar of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences B. Afterwards, the students will move together towards the protest point near the State Palace. As of the writing of this report, there has been no detailed explanation regarding the demands of the BEM UPNVJ action. Tempo has contacted BEM UPNVJ Chair Gufron Dymas Wicaksono and representative of the BEM UPNVJ External Media, Communication and Information Bureau Tazkia Ayudya to confirm and request an explanation for today’s action. However, neither has yet provided a response. In addition to the student element, a protest in the Central Jakarta area was also held by the Indonesian Women’s Alliance. The crowd, consisting of women’s organisations and civil society, had gathered on the pavement opposite the Dukuh Atas Skateboard Park, Central Jakarta, on Thursday morning, 18 June 2026. The crowd then moved towards the front of the State Palace. They uniformly wore pink clothing and house dresses. Some carried kitchen utensils, banners, posters, and attributes containing their demands. This action brought a number of demands to the government, including lowering the prices of basic necessities, creating decent jobs, and evaluating the free nutritious meal programme, known as MBG.
