The University of Indonesia’s Student Executive Body (BEM UI) will stage a demonstration in the Bundaran HI area today. Motorists are advised to avoid the Bundaran HI area. BEM UI plans to hold the protest at Bundaran HI on Friday, 12 June 2026, starting at 10.00 WIB. Traffic congestion is expected in the Bundaran HI area as a result. “We are informing the public about potential traffic density at the following location: the Bundaran HI area (Central Jakarta),” the Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Management Centre (TMC) wrote on its social media account. Residents are therefore urged to avoid the Bundaran HI area due to the potential for traffic jams. They are also advised to follow the instructions and directions of officers on the ground for safety and smooth traffic flow, and to comply with applicable regulations. “Traffic density is expected on the road sections around Jl. Sudirman-Thamrin. Motorists are advised to avoid these road sections or seek alternative routes,” the statement added. BEM UI Chairman Yatalathof Ma’shum Imawan confirmed the demonstration would proceed today. He estimated that more than 1,000 students would take to the streets. The protest is titled ‘Towards a Bankrupt Indonesia’. Yatalathof noted that the traffic disruption would only be temporary during the action. “However, we want to convey the message that tomorrow’s traffic jam will only last a few hours. On the other hand, the congestion of social mobility, the congestion of job opportunities, and the congestion of the future that this system imposes on the people has been going on for decades and shows no sign of stopping on its own,” he explained. He added that the demonstration carries five demands: 1. Stop the waste of the State Budget (APBN). 2. Lower the prices of staple goods and fuel. 3. Halt the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme and the construction of the ‘Red and White Village’ cooperatives. 4. Stop militarism in civilian affairs. 5. President Prabowo must stop evading and admit the government’s mistakes.
