BEM SI Backs Kortas Tipikor Polri in Investigating Coal Corruption
The All-Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM SI) supports the Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor) of the National Police and the Metro Jaya Regional Police in investigating several alleged corruption cases currently under public scrutiny. BEM SI Central Coordinator Muzammil Ihsan stated that the searches conducted by investigators are part of a law enforcement process that must be respected.
“We appreciate the National Police’s steps in following up on alleged corruption cases that are of public concern. Corruption eradication must be carried out seriously, professionally, and without discrimination. Anyone proven involved must be processed according to the law,” Muzammil said in a statement on Thursday (9/7/2026).
According to him, uncovering corruption cases must not stop at field-level perpetrators but must also reveal the parties suspected of being the main actors or those who enjoyed the proceeds of the crime.
“The public hopes this process will not stop halfway. Law enforcement must be brave enough to touch anyone regardless of position, power, or affiliation. That is where the integrity of law enforcement is at stake,” he stressed.
BEM SI also highlighted the growing public attention regarding the security measures at the residence of the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus). Muzammil stated that any security measures carried out based on legal provisions must certainly be respected.
However, this situation must not create a perception that could undermine public trust in the independence of the legal process. Therefore, BEM SI reminded all state institutions to exercise their authority proportionally in accordance with the principle of civilian supremacy and to respect the ongoing legal process.
“We respect the duties of every state institution. However, in handling corruption cases, it is important for all parties to uphold the principle of civilian supremacy and not take actions that could be interpreted as intervention in the investigation process. Let law enforcement officers work independently according to their authority,” Muzammil said.
He added that synergy between state institutions is important for maintaining national stability. However, this synergy must remain within the legal corridor and not reduce the independence of law enforcement officers in investigating a case.
Furthermore, BEM SI hopes that the momentum of uncovering several alleged corruption cases will serve as tangible proof of the state’s commitment to strengthening the anti-corruption agenda, which has long been a public demand.
“Corruption is an extraordinary crime that robs the people’s rights. Therefore, we support every effort to eradicate corruption that is carried out professionally, transparently, and accountably. There must be no intervention, no selective prosecution, and no special treatment for anyone before the law,” Muzammil stated.
BEM SI affirmed that it will continue to monitor the progress of these cases as part of the students’ social control function, while also pushing for consistent anti-corruption efforts to achieve a clean, integrity-driven government that sides with the people’s interests.
