BEM FTI UBSI Denies Involvement in BEM Bersatu Alliance, Refutes Existence of Member Named Ahmad

The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics at Bina Sarana Informatika University (UBSI) has stated it is not involved with the BEM Bersatu Student Alliance. This clarification was issued following the emergence of an individual claiming to represent BEM FTI UBSI at a press conference held by the BEM Bersatu Student Alliance on Tuesday (16/6). “BEM FTI UBSI never attended nor sent a representative to the press conference,” according to a post on the BEM FTI UBSI Instagram account on Wednesday (17/7). CNNIndonesia.com was granted permission to quote the post. BEM FTI UBSI stated it never gave a mandate to any party to represent the organisation at the event. BEM FTI UBSI also confirmed it does not have an executive, member, or chairman named Ahmad, as mentioned in related news reports. “Therefore, all statements made by the party claiming to represent BEM FTI UBSI in that forum are not the official stance or statement of the organisation,” said BEM FTI UBSI. Previously, a student alliance called BEM Bersatu declared its rejection of student movements being co-opted by practical political interests. They believe student movements must be the voice of the people, not a tool for seizing power. “We, BEM Bersatu, reject all forms of co-opting student movements by practical political interests. Student movements must remain the voice of the people, not an elite tool in the struggle for power,” said a representative of BEM Bersatu, Rahmat Djimbula, who is the Chairman of BEM Law at UIC, during a press conference in Utan Kayu, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (16/6). To that end, they announced a number of demands, namely: 1. Urging the sterilisation of student movements from funding, facilities, and all forms of practical political intervention. 2. Supporting the continuation of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme with notes on improving governance to ensure it is well-targeted and accountable. 3. Supporting the thorough investigation of corruptors without discrimination and inviting all Indonesian students to oversee the legal process critically and objectively. The list of BEM Bersatu members present at the press conference included: Wildan Ricky (Chairman of BEM Faculty of Law UNISIA), Muhammad Yani (BEM Faculty of Law UIJ), Ardi Zulkifly (Chairman of BEM FISIP UNAS), Ardiansyah (Chairman of BEM Al-Aqidah Institute), Ahmad Ghazy (BEM Psychology UNJ), Alfi (Chairman of BEM FEB UNPAM), Rahmat Djimbula (Chairman of BEM Law UIC), Dicky (BEM F.IPS Unindra), Ahmad (BEM Faculty of Engineering BSI University), and Rezky Anandar (BEM Faculty of Social Sciences and Administrative Management STIAMI Institute).
