Belgian Tourist Deported After Viral Cliff Jump into Sea on Rented Motorbike in Bali

The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Bali has deported a foreign national from Belgium with the initials SD. The foreigner was expelled after being caught attempting to flee the country to avoid compensating for the rented motorbike he damaged. “We ensure there is no room for compromise for foreigners who violate rules and try to avoid legal processes,” said the Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, in Mangupura, Badung Regency, Bali, as reported by Antara on Friday (3/4/2026). SD had previously gone viral on social media. SD performed a daring act by jumping from a cliff approximately 100 metres high at one of the beaches in Ungasan Village, Badung, using a motorbike. However, the motorbike did not fall with him because it was tied to the cliff. Nevertheless, the rented motorbike was severely damaged after hitting the cliff edge. The incident occurred on 23-24 March 2026. SD’s action was recorded by his friend from Austria and uploaded to social media, where it went viral. Bugie said the problem arose when the motorbike owner demanded compensation. Bugie stated that SD refused to pay compensation on the grounds that he had no money. The victim then reported the matter to Immigration. Officers then summoned SD for clarification. Instead of taking responsibility, SD attempted to flee to Malaysia. SD planned to fly to Sorong, Papua, then transit in Makassar, South Sulawesi, before continuing his flight to Kuala Lumpur on 30 March 2026. The escape attempt was thwarted by immigration officers at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar. SD was then returned to Bali under escort by officers. After being examined at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, SD finally paid compensation to the motorbike rental business owner. SD was then deported to Belgium via Ngurah Rai International Airport with a transit in Doha. Bugie stated that SD violated Article 75 paragraph (1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration. In addition to deportation, SD has been added to the blacklist, meaning he cannot return to Indonesia for a certain period.
