Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Republic of Indonesia has successfully secured investment commitments and trade cooperation with several companies in Eastern Europe. This move is aimed at strengthening national economic resilience and expanding the network of domestic business actors on the global stage.

Through the newly formed strategic partnership, Indonesia has officially agreed to strengthen bilateral economic relations with the Republic of Belarus. This historic moment was marked by the signing of official documents and several business agreements in Minsk, Belarus on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Citing an official press release from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, both countries formally ratified the Agreed Minutes of the 8th Indonesia-Belarus Joint Commission Meeting on Economic Cooperation. This important document was signed by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Viktor Karankevich.

The ratification serves as a solid foundation for both parties to ensure that all economic agendas can be immediately and concretely implemented. The agreements discussed cover vital sectors such as trade, investment, industry, banking, food security, and agriculture.

“The agreements reached in this Joint Commission Meeting must be translated into concrete steps that have a direct impact on improving economic relations between Indonesia and Belarus,” said Airlangga in a statement.

Positive responses also came from the Belarusian side, which is fully committed to opening up the widest possible opportunities for collaboration between businesses in both countries. They reaffirmed their readiness to support Indonesia in strategic industrial sectors and the adoption of renewable technologies.

“Each country is committed to continuing to deepen cooperation with Indonesia, especially in the industrial, agricultural, and technological sectors, and to open up wider opportunities for businesses in both countries,” said Karankevich.

The success of this diplomatic effort was immediately demonstrated through the signing of 5 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between business entities from both countries. The total value of these corporate collaborations is reported to reach IDR 7 trillion.

The list of agreements includes a strategic partnership between PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) and Nedra Nezhin. In addition, there are four agreements from PT Indonesia Belarus Jaya with OJSC Minsk Dairy Plant No. 1, Energi Complekt, OJSC Dolomite, and Belindo Trade.

In carrying out this agenda, Airlangga was accompanied by an important delegation, including Indonesian Ambassador to Moscow, Jose Antonio Morato Tavares, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, Deputy Assistant for Bilateral Economic Cooperation, Irwan Sinaga, and Director of Europe II at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Punjul Setya Nugraha.

The diplomatic mission continued with a high-level bilateral meeting with Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov on Friday. This meeting focused on finalizing preparations for the state visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to Indonesia.

Both ministers intensively prepared a Roadmap for Indonesia-Belarus Cooperation, which will be the main outcome of the president’s visit. This roadmap is designed to facilitate the flow of capital and humanitarian relations.

In addition to discussing long-term projects, the strategic meeting also gave rise to a revolutionary initiative in the transportation and tourism sectors. Both sides discussed plans to open direct flights between Indonesia and Belarus and to ease visa policies for tourists and business people.

To facilitate all diplomatic and business matters in the future, both leaders also finalized plans to open an Indonesian Embassy in Minsk.

In the future of the manufacturing industry, both ministers encouraged advanced cooperation in the electric vehicle ecosystem, the semiconductor industry, and ensuring a sufficient supply of potash fertilizer from Belarus for national food security. Regarding international trade, the progress of the ratification of the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA) was also discussed.

The Belarusian side confirmed that their parliament had fully ratified the free trade agreement and that the documents were now on the president’s desk. Meanwhile, Airlangga explained that Indonesia is targeting the completion of a similar ratification process in the second half of 2026.

In conclusion, both leaders agreed on cooperation in the field of human resource development through the sending of Indonesian students and professionals to health institutions in Belarus. Airlangga welcomed this opportunity and immediately gave strategic directions that the scholarship and training programs should focus on areas that are currently a top priority for the Indonesian President.

“This program can be expanded to areas that are the focus of the Indonesian President, namely Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM),” said Airlangga.

For information, both countries have been fostering close cooperation. In the fields of trade and investment, Indonesia and Belarus have recorded a significant increase in trade value, reaching approximately USD 221 million, an increase of 72.6% compared to the previous year.
