Belarusian President Lukashenko to Meet Prabowo at Merdeka Palace
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will meet President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace. The official state visit is scheduled for Thursday, 2 July 2026. Lukashenko arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, and was welcomed by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta. Sjafrie shared the moment via his Instagram social media account, stating, ‘I represented the President of the Republic of Indonesia in welcoming the presence of the President of the Republic of Belarus, H.E. Alexander Lukashenko, at Base Ops Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, Wednesday, 1 July 2026.’ Sjafrie conveyed that Lukashenko’s presence in Indonesia is an important momentum in strengthening the friendship between the two countries, ‘while also opening space for strengthening strategic cooperation that is mutually respectful and mutually contributive to the progress of both nations.’ In Sjafrie’s post, President Lukashenko’s son, Dmitry Lukashenko, was seen joining in welcoming his father’s arrival. Dmitry had arrived earlier in Jakarta and held a meeting with Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman. President Prabowo previously visited the Belarusian capital, Minsk, on 15 July 2025. During that visit, Prabowo also visited President Lukashenko’s residence in Ozyorny, located outside the capital Minsk. Their meeting last year lasted nearly three hours. President Prabowo became the second head of state after Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit President Lukashenko’s home following its renovation. ‘After this house was restored, you are the second guest after President Putin. Previously, even before the renovation, President Xi Jinping also visited here with his family,’ Lukashenko said when welcoming President Prabowo. The two leaders discussed various strategic issues, including cooperation opportunities in the trade, commodities, and fertiliser supply sectors. President Prabowo expressed gratitude for the warm welcome while inviting President Lukashenko to visit Indonesia again.
