Bekraf-BRIN partner to drive research-based creative economy
The cooperation marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Creative Economy Minister/Head of Bekraf Teuku Riefky Harsya and Head of BRIN Arif Satria in Jakarta on Tuesday (July 28).
Minister Harsya noted the collaboration aimed to build a creative economy ecosystem based on evidence-based policy to meet the needs of creative industry players while delivering tangible impact.
“Through the signing of this MoU, we welcome the strengthening of our collaboration to implement the 2026-2045 Creative Economy Master Plan (Rindekraf) through policies which are driven by data, research, and scientific studies,” Harysa said in a statement received here in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Creative Economy and BRIN will carry out four main action plans, namely research development strategies, funding and financing facilitation, intellectual property facilitation strategies, and the protection of creative works.
The four pillars will be implemented through the development of creative economy studies and research, data and information exchange, seed funding schemes for priority sub-sectors, intellectual property support, and the strengthening of protection and conservation for Indonesia’s cultural heritage.
The synergy will also support the execution of the Ministry’s three flagship programmes, they are Creative Village Activation, Creative Hub Activation, and Creative by Indonesia.
For the three initiatives, both parties are collaborating in talent development, research, innovation, downstream development of creative works, and pushing intellectual property commercialisation to boost the competitiveness of Indonesia’s creative economy.

Meanwhile, the BRIN’s Head Arif Satria underscored the creative economy sector has become a key driver for future economic growth, as it relies on creativity, a resource that is virtually limitless.
“There are many areas we can bolster through research and innovation in sub-sectors considered strategic by the Ministry of Creative Economy. The research we conduct will align with industry needs,” Satria said.
Beyond supporting the implementation of the 2026-2045 master plan, the collaboration between the two institutions is aimed at strengthening the organisation of the 5th World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE), which will be scheduled on October 21–23, 2026, in Jakarta.
At the event, BRIN is expected to play an active role through the Creative Session as a platform to disseminate research and innovation in the creative sector.
