Bekasi wants city to renovate dump

BEKASI: Bekasi administration spokesman Cecep Sutandi said the Jakarta administration is obliged to renovate the damaged road to and the environment in the vicinity of the now-closed Jakarta dump in Bantar Gebang.

"It is on the draft agreement between Bekasi and Jakarta, which is now in the hands of both councils ... Jakarta will provide the Rp 17 billion (US$2 million) rehabilitation funds," Cecep was quoted by Antara as saying on Tuesday.

He added the agreement also mentioned a two-year joint waste management deal with the Jakarta administration under a Bekasi- run enterprise.

Bekasi mayor Ahmad Zurfaih expressed hope the Council would soon give a response and deliberate the agreement due to its importance.

However, most of the councillors were not at their offices during the campaigning period, Antara reported. -- JP
