Bekasi uncle kills two-year-old, citing gaming disturbance and voices as motive
Police have named G (18) as a suspect in the murder of a two-year-old toddler in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, West Java. G told police he was disturbed while playing video games, leading him to kill his nephew.
‘After questioning the suspect directly, he was playing video games at the time of the incident. The victim, a toddler, climbed onto his back, causing the perpetrator to feel disturbed and stab the child,’ said Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, head of the criminal investigation unit at Bekasi City Police, on Friday (29 May 2026).
He stated that G took two knives from the kitchen to stab the victim. G also claimed to have heard voices, which led him to kill his nephew.
‘In addition to being disturbed, the suspect also reported hearing voices and wanting to meet God immediately, according to his statement,’ he said.
Iqbal said that during the incident, only the suspect and the victim were in the house. The household typically consists of three people, but the grandmother or the suspect’s mother was out at the time.
‘The grandmother typically works from 4pm until night. When she returned that evening, she was shocked to find both individuals lying in a pool of blood. She spontaneously took the knife from the suspect’s hands,’ he said.
Iqbal said G had self-inflicted wounds. The suspect sustained stab wounds to his chest and both cheeks.
‘Investigations confirmed the suspect had injured himself,’ he added.
He stated that G, who is being treated in hospital, has regained consciousness and been questioned. G has been named a suspect and faces up to 15 years in prison.
‘We have applied Article 80(3) of Law 35/2014 on Child Protection, in conjunction with Article 458 of the Criminal Code under Law 1/2023. The maximum penalty is 15 years in prison or a fine of Rp 13 billion,’ he said.
The victim’s body was discovered on Wednesday (27 May) in a rental house in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City. The suspect G has been taken into police custody.
